Built by Curtiss-Wright as competition for the States’ next fighter, the Ascender rightly earned the nickname Ass-ender.
While it was unconventional in it’s configuration, swept wing, canards and a pusher prop, problematic stall characteristics and sub-par performance lead to its cancellations. It also took the life of its pilot and several attendees at an airshow in 1945.
How to fly:
-Use the main throttle to control engine torque.
-Control propeller pitch angle with I/K from between -22 degrees at takeoff to a maximum of -50 degrees increasing gradually until at a top speed of approximately 170m/s.
To create folding landing gear, it uses parts from Breaking Ground. After take off, press AG 9 to unlock the parts and press G to raise and fold the landing gear. Press G to lower the gear and AG 9 again for landing.
