Description
A mod rocket called KASLP. Built with 180 of the finest parts, its root part is dockingPort3.
Details
- Type: VAB
- Class: ship
- Part Count: 180
- Pure Stock
Kerbal Apollo-Saturn Launch Package.
One of my older continuing favourite private projects revised using the new Making History
DLC parts.
–
Pre-Launch:
- Throttle up to full thrust.
- Set target body in map view .
- Wait for physics to settle if skipping step 2.
–
Launch & Ascent to Orbit:
- Stage to fire first-stage main engines.
- On clearing tower, engage SAS and begin roll to ‘heads-down’ (‘top’ of CM facing East).
- Continue direct vertical ascent until vertical velocity approaches 100m/s.
- At 100m/s VV, pull to 80 degree pitch angle and hold until reaching 5,000m altitude.
- On passing altitude 5,000m, begin pitch schedule of 10 degrees for 5,000m altitude, maintain pitch schedule until first-stage main engine cut-off (extend terminal pitch pull to ~5 degrees pitch angle).
- On reaching 20ms-2 acceleration, shutdown first stage centre main engine (~15,000m).
- Pitch angle should be right on 5 degrees to the horizon as first stage goes into cut-off.
- At first-stage cut-off, stage once to separate first stage, then stage again to ignite second stage main engines.
- On second-stage ignition, wait until ullage motors deplete then stage again to separate interstage fairing, then wait ~15 seconds and stage again to jettison and clear LAS.
- Continue free ascent (allow pitch to decay naturally) until velocity vector reaches vehicle nose marker then engage SAS prograde mode.
- Continue with ascent while observing apoapsis altitude. Second-stage engines should cut-off at apoapsis ~100,000m. If fuel still remains in second-stage as apoapsis reaches 100,000m, perform manual second-stage shut-down.
- On second-stage cut-off/shut-down, stage to separate second stage, press ‘R’ to activate S-IVB APS and coast to apoapsis for circularisation burn.
- At apoapsis, stage to ignite ullage and third-stage motors (be sure the S-IVB is throttled up prior to staging) for circularisation burn to complete the orbit injection.
[NOTE]:
After transpose & docking manoeuvre, staging will likely be messed up. Be sure to check & re-assign correct staging components & order.
Lander is capable of minimally safe Mun landing from maximum orbit of 65 x 50 km with zero margin. Absolutely do not attempt landing from any higher or you’re guaranteed to be having a bad day.
