The Russian Style!
Derived from my shuttle programm Funkyndustries brings you Energija w/ Buran. It was build in KSP 1.3.1.
It’s a very powerful launch system optimized for payloads around 20t but capable of way more. E.g. 40t to KSO or bring your payload to other planets (see video).
The boosters are recoverable and the core stage can be deorbited to fight Kessler’s legacy.
Airlock/docking module is included in the cargobay. It can be removed, if you need more space.
Tips & Tricks
The boosters seperate in pairs like the real world counter part. After the first separtion switch to them and seperate again. Airbrakes (AG:Brakes) will help you to slow down but if you’ve reached nearly orbital velocity they might blow up. Even with spinning techniques.
I suggest to leave some fuel in the boosters and perform a reentry burn. Therefore you can turn off the Vectors of the boosters before the first separation (AG1).
If you want to maneuver in space with the core stage attached, reduce the thrust of the Vectors to ~30% and control from the angled probe core (AG4). The angle is highly depending on your payload but it’s better than controlling from the cockpit.
For deorbiting the core stage turn off the vectors (AG2). Turn on rcs. The Vernors thrust is bind to throttle.
Reentry is straightforward. Buran is more nose-heavy than the Shuttle so it wont flip. If you need more pitch control adjust the authority limiter of the elevons. Additionally you can use the body flaps (change deploy direction and authority limits or activate pitch).
