Description
A replica of the Heluan HA-300 (At least in the book I have it’s Heluan. Wikipedia says Helwan, but whatever), designed by Willy Messerschmitt. Development was stopped just before testing with the intendet engine began. Unarmed. Intendet armament was two 20mm or 30mm autocannons, as well as two air-to-air missiles.
Also participated in the 5th Generation Fighter Challenge http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/126342-The-5th-Generation-Fighter-challenge-FAR
One of the guys there had the entries fight each other (after arming the unarmed entries I suppose). Spent the past six hours or so letting the AI fight each other, and of all the matches, only one plane managed to score any hits: The Heluan HA-300!
(Page 40, post number 391)
Mistake on my part: The steering for the nose wheel needs to be inverted. Sorry.
Takeoff: Throttle up, and pull on the elevator at 90m/s. You may need to ease up on the elevator just after, or she’ll stall, but even if you do, you won’t nessecarily crash. (Due to increased critical AoA, she is now much harder to stall, so that no longer applies; see below)
Landing: Recomended touchdown speed (at full fuel load, and/or with droptank) is about 90m/s. Gives you some room to play with, before reaching stall speed.
Other notes: Most of the time about ¾ elevator deflection are enough to reach 10G/critical AoA (about 25°)/rip the wings off. I only left the elevator deflection like that because you wouldn’t be able to pull as much at high speed, high altitude. (also no longer applies, due to increased critical AoA)
Built with 33 of the finest parts, its root part is Mark1Cockpit.
Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.0.4.
Update: With the latest FAR version, it's limited to about Mach 1.96 top speed.
On the other hand, critical AoA is now about 35°, reducing stall speed to about 70m/s.
