Description

This model is outdated, use the 10G IV one instead ;)

A stock aircraft called 10 Grand, SSTO w/ ~10,000m/s in LKO. Built with 244 of the finest parts, its root part is Mark2Cockpit.

Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.6.1.

SSTO with near 10,000m/s in LKO.

Poor little wheels get stressed so don’t hang out on the runway for too long, get your ass movin’! Start with ~ ¼ thrust and throttle up to full once at 10m/s and enable the afterburners (action group 3) on the panther. Also, the Kraken doesn’t always approve of my fuel tank shenanigans, if it blows up on the runway, reload form the SPH, do not revert to launch.

Accelerate to mach 1 at sea level, then pitch up to around 5° keeping an eye on thrust. You want it to be increasing as you climb, if it starts to drop pitch down a little.

Panther will flame out around 980m/s @ 10km. At this point, level out and get your surface velocity up to at least 1350m/s, then slowly pitch up to around 5°. Once at 14km altitude pitch down so that your climb rate stays between 10 and 20m/s, once your surface velocity exceeds 1400m/s, light up the Nerv and let climb rate increase to ~30-50m/s. Keep that rate until surface velocity loses all acceleration (should happen around 24-25km with a velocity over 1550m/s).

Hit action group 1 to switch to closed cycle mode, let climb rate increase to 100m/s and hold there. Let it fully burn through the oxidizer. As apoapsis approaches 30km begin to level off til you reach surface prograde and then enable SAS to hold it. When oxidizer is gone, let it pitch up slightly from surface prograde. Nuke should have the thrust to take you to orbit, roughly circularizing at 30-35km. Drag at surface prograde should be relatively minimal.
