The F-42 line was the predecessor of the humongous Draconian interceptor, in which the former never made it past the prototype stage until 1998, where it was finally produced.
In 1991, Kerbin Air Force realized they need to have ground-attack aircraft in their arsenal. As the result, they’ve launched Project Superstrafe, which was aimed to have supersonic flight-capable ground-attack aircraft. Frontinco approached KAF with their entry, designated as XF-42. Alas, the project was shelved in 1994 due to budgetary constraints and submission delays.
In 1998, air forces of several allied nations came to Frontinco, asking for a cheap, highly maneuverable & easy to maintain air-superiority fighter. The result, they’ve took the XF-42, retained the GAU-8 Gatling cannon which was origianlly built for air-to-ground strafings, changed the armament of AGM-65 Maverick air-to-ground missiles to AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles, installed an additional pylon under the main fuselage and removed the air-to-air refueling system after the potential customers told Frontinco they have no air-to-air tankers. The result, F-42 Ali-A was born.
Several variants are being developed, using the naming convention after outdated memes.
A mod aircraft called Frontinco F-42A Ali-A. Built with 48 of the finest parts, its root part is Mark2Cockpit.
Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.9.1.
- Afterburner is on by default. This is to ease flight as the aircraft is made as a challenge entry and AI Pilot will fly the aircraft.
- Flare & Chaff is set to action groups as it was unavailable in the BD Weapon Manager. However, with the aircraft will be flown using AI Pilot and fight with Guard Mode, Flares & Chaffs, as well as an ECM Jammer, those might be triggered automatically. However, if you wish to fire both manually, refer the
Action Groupssection for more information.
