Description

The CF-135 Draconian is a Mach 3.9 interceptor, derived from the XF-135 designed back in the dawn of Kold War originally as an all-weather high-speed fighter with ease of maintenance, thanks to only a single turbo-ramjet engine as its powerplant. However, work on the XF-135 is terminated due to the design’s inability to reach Mach 2; it can barely fly above the speed of sound.

After fears that the Kraken will send its Krakenites soldiers via high-speed glider-landers, Kerbin Air Force originally ordered several Avro Canada CF-105 Arrows, however after Avro Canada announced that they will terminate the development of the CF-105 Arrow, Kerbin Air Force started Project Krakensbane, held to find potential manufacturers around Kerbin to produce a Mach 3+ interceptor, flying at maximum speed at an altitude of 15,000m above sea level. The aircraft must also be easily-maintained as Air Force technicians would need the aircraft on high alert as the swarms of Krakenites spacecraft could come in anytime soon, in huge numbers. Frontinco, KRASSH and MSOW-Kattele has participated in the program.

After every participating manufacturers submitted their test airframes, all three of the submissions have been evaluated and as the result, Frontinco has been awarded the contract. As they have the existing XF-135 design, waiting to be improved, they’ve taken the design, redesigned the nose, and send it for another test flight. The results are promising.

The aircraft entered service in the year 1965 and to this day, remained with Kerbin Air Force and received various upgrades during its service, including the mid-air refueling system and a two-Kerbal cockpit. The aircraft is now currently in service alongside Frontinco’s newest interceptor, the CF-125 Triple Arrow.
