While the B-17 may have been good enough for conducting raids over Germany from British airfields, the Pacific Theater quickly displayed that the range of the Flying Fortress was inadequate for long range bombing runs over the Japanese mainland.
As a result of the need for a long range, heavy strategic bomber, Boeing developed the B-29. Apart from excellent performance it featured breakthrough, state-of-the-art technology for it’s time such as a fully pressurized crew compartments and a computer-controlled turret system.
Perhaps most (in)famous for dropping nuclear bombs on Japan in the summer of 1945, the B-29 found multiple uses after the war being converted into an air tanker, a heavy transport aircraft and an airliner.
This is my biggest flying replica yet, and I’m really motivated to make more of those considering the result. The wings are properly profiled and provide a ton of lift allowing you to lift big payloads without issue. Top speed sits at around 130m/s with proper prop pitch. The controls may seem a bit stiff, but it’s a strategic bomber after all.
Be gentle on landings, just remember that those wheels can break quite easily.
AG1 - Decrease prop pitch (high speeds)
AG2 - Increase prop pitch (low speeds and climbing)
AG4 - Toggle flaps
AG5 - Toggle power generation (IMPORTANT ON STARTUP)
Have fun flying this big boi.
