The Kormoran is a short range helicopter designed for anti-submarine warfare and transporting small payloads.

It is designed specifically to fly with Ferram Aerospace Research installed, and may not work correctly without it. It is also necessary to use the Atmosphere Autopilot mod mod.

You will also need the Airplane Plus Tweakscale config, as the rotors have been scaled down.

Note that sometimes the fuel cell doesn’t generate electricity. If this occurs, try manually turning the fuel cell off and on by using the right-click menu.

Flight Instructions

• Turn the parking brake on and engage the Atmosphere Autopilot mod’s fly-by-wire mode. You should use ONLY the ‘coordinated turn’ setting while hovering.

• Press 1 to start the rotors. Wait until the rotors have reached 1000 RPM before throttling up. The aircraft will begin to lift off two notches from the top of the throttle indicator, or at about 30kN.

• Pitch down as much as 15° to accelerate forwards, feathering the throttle to maintain level flight. Banking sideways will result in lateral movement in that direction even when the rotors are brought level again.

• The aircraft will reach a maximum cruising speed in level flight of slightly above 80m/s. To turn smoothly, engage the Atmopshere Autopilot’s ‘moderation’ mode as well as ‘coordinated turn’ and Be aware that banking will result in the aircraft descending, so you should increase the throttle to compensate.
