The Invictus is a super heavy Spaceplane SSTO loaded up to build a large base on Duna. It carries 128,000 Material kits, and 8000 Specialized parts as well as a Tundra Pioneer module to build a sizeable base.
It has a science lab to make use of the time to destination, some agroponics farms, recyclers, hitchhiker cans, and a cupola for habitation and supplies, and Deep Freeze pods to keep most of the kolonists in stasis for the duration.
There is a small folding wing lander strapped to the roof to detach and scout for landing spots. It uses an atomic thrmal jet, so no fuel is required.
The outrigger pods contain 8 ARI engines for VTOL capabilities. (I use Throttle Controlled Avionics to balance engines for VTOL, so I don’t know how ballanced it is without.)
Use most of the runway to build speed so you can lift up gently so as to avoid banging the tail. From there pitch up to 15 to 20 degrees to build speed and climb to about 10,000 meters. Level out, and build speed. once you’re TWR gets up to a decent amount, pitch up to 35 degrees, and ride. Watch the turbojet engine nacelles, when their thrust drops to about 600, kick over to closed cycle.
Action groups are:
1) Toggle main engines
2) Cycle open/closed cycle
3) Toggle VTOL engines and the bays that contain them
5) Toggle cargo bays
6) Toggle ramp
7) Start reactor and it’s radiators.
0) Start all lifesupport and habitation modules.
A mod aircraft called Invictus-X. Built with 312 of the finest parts, its root part is k.10m.cockpit.
Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.3.0.

Don't forget, people build craft at all skill levels, just 'cos something is 'newbish' doesn't mean it needs hatin'.
