Description
The KRS Persistance N-S 2 is the pinnacle of my KSP engineering capacity. Armed with a large drill and a small ISRU, as well as all of the science modules save the two larger scanners, the KRS Persistance N-S 2 can travel from Kerbin to Minmus without needing to refuel in orbit, then from Minmus to anywhere but Eve, land, take off and return to Kerbin. Unlike its larger but easier to use cousin, the KRS Endurance N-S II, this ship needs a strong, efficient gravity turn at 50m/s and approximately 2000m/s in order to make it into orbit. The flight plan is moderately complex - turn on the chemical engines only until 5000m, then turn on the nukes and continue following a prograde gravity turn until the chemical engines run out and you are one minute from reaching apoapsis - then hold your angle steady until your orbit circularizes. It might require some practice. Its maximum Delta-V is 6533m/s according to the rocket equation if my calculations are right. It was built entirely in stock.
