In the modern age of warfare where the expectation, even with so-called stealth aircraft, is to lose a few air frames in a massive offensive or urgent defensive maneuver, it may be odd to see such a large mechanically complex airframe fly in the skies. The Bear, however, exists to fulfill two very specific missions: heavy payload delivery in contested airspace, and tactical payload delivery in thunder run offenses.
The bear is a tactical fighter/bomber, albeit, for its appearences it looks to be a fighter in terms of high altitude and speed intercepts. Variable geometry wings, of which PGS tends to veer clear of, have been implemented not just to allow for heavy payload capacity from forward operating bases, but to allow a much greater chance of survivability and aerial defensive combat compared to any pure bombers in the PGS lineup. Although coatings and whatnot for radar reduction are present, radar stealth is very much an after though with a priority on speed and payload as well as ruggedness to complete missions in a rapidly changing contested airspace.
