Katana is coming out of a museum for this. Coming from no designation structure to a nonsensical designation number system, the KU-903 is an old backbone fighter of 3rd generation fighters.
Katana was designed to serve primarily as an interceptor with some aerial engagement capabilities. With a seat for a weapons system officer aids in these missions as well as allowing for very limited ground attack operations.
The sleek fuselage and small intakes with high sweep delta wings powered by a single engine allows for acceptable speeds in interception missions. Aiding in that is the wingtip canting system that reduces the surface aera contributing to vertial lift and as an afterfact drag.
