Description
Second in Avrodyne’s bird-series of aircraft, the Goshawk is a small, supersonic private jet. It features a radical design new to the competitive market of business aircraft: a box-wing design. The Goshawk is designed for longer-distance business flights at higher speeds and higher altitudes than the Sparrow.
When rival company C7 Aerospace Division unveiled the subsonic Velociteze, Avrodyne countered with the Sparrow, a supersonic business jet featuring folding wingtips. After soon discovering that the Sparrow’s wingtips were a maintenance and engineering nightmare, they eventually discovered the hinges also could come loose and cause the aircraft to lose roll control and crash.
In an effort to not only save its reputation, but also replace the Sparrow, Avrodyne unveiled the box-winged Goshawk, which has no moving wingtips or hinges that can come loose and fall off the aircraft. Plus, the Goshawk satisfied a lot more customers mainly for one thing: it was faster. Training was also much simpler and people liked the new blue glowing exhaust and the lower-volume sonic thump. A J-404 Panther was converted into an APU and also slightly increased the speed.
Creator’s note: This craft was inspired by a FLYOUT creation by Messier 82 on YouTube. Look for the video called Building a Quiet Supersonic Passenger Jet!
