The core module of the Soviet’s Mir space station, launched in 1986.

A mod rocket called Mir - DOS-7. Built with 49 of the finest parts, its root part is Vega.Crew.B.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.0.4.

The core module was launched atop the Proton-K booster. In KSP/Tantares, the multi-stage Proton isn’t necessary to reach low Kerbin orbit. The one stage is sufficient.

You need to be careful, though. Do not let the Angle of Attack stray outside the prograde reticule while you are still below about 25km altitude or the craft may begin to tumble.

The default orbital insertion profile I use involves using the Proton to almost circularize the orbit. When the periapsis reaches zero, I turn off the engines, stage, and then fire up the RCS engines on the DOS-7 block. There is plenty of delta-V to circularize the orbit and the Proton booster doesn’t clutter up space.
