The L.E.C Light Interceptor it’s an atmospheric fighter.
Story:
Laythe Engineering Corporation dedicates to build luxury boats and spaceships for the rich and powerful of the Kerbol System, being Laythe one of the wealthiest planets due to being not affected by the great cataclysms that Kerbin suffered and the fact that the biggest banks are located here. But when the planetary government of Laythe was searching for a jet-fighter capable of intercepting the illegal air races that were storming one of the biggest commercial areas of the planet LEC and other off world companies rushed to present projects but, being LEC the only local company that had engines specifically designed for the atmosphere of Laythe, it easily outclassed every fighter that other companies offered.
After winning the contract LEC partnered with Penguinium Firearms to include the weapon system (a decision that Laythe’s government didn’t liked because ruskie penguins).
This partnership will end up with the Interceptor having a single 20mm cannon with 1300 rounds and a missile holder capable of having 3 heat seeking missiles at a time, a class 2(a number for each weapon handled) weapon manager and a the inclusion of a radar receiver due to the lack of one aboard.
LEC also putted a “personal touch” on the aircrafts having this fighter a very spacious cockpit and an integrated AI for personal assistance for the pilot.
A peculiar feature of this aircraft that separates it from the rest are his top of the line repulsor lifts meant for take-off and landing that converted this aircraft in the fastest mass produced “speeder” reaching 770m/s on a straight line (top speed at Laythe’s sea level) said repulsor lifts made this plane hard to take-off and land for unexperienced pilots
1100 vessels were ordered and delivered before the war started and were severely outclassed in weaponry until future versions.
