Description
The BAK Kassius is the Brikoleur Aerospace Kombine advanced Mun liaison SSTO. It will reach LKO with well over 2000 m/s dV without having to expend any oxidant, and is also capable of making a safe and precise Mun landing on atomic jets alone. Take-off from the Mun requires a short burst of chemical rocket power, even though it is facilitated by extra nose gear that will point the nose up at about 15 degrees, and Vernors at the nose to help pitch up after take-off.
Kassius has a crew capacity of 10 and also has a small cargo bay with a science can and other miscellany.
The BAK Kassius obsoletes the BAK Munbat, as it is equally capable but much more efficient.
To take-off and reach orbit, hold 15 degrees until 6 km at which point pitch down to 10 degrees. The craft will reach its thermal limits under RAPIER power. Activate atomic drive around 15 km altitude and cruise to orbit. If necessary, point the nose at up to 15 degrees above prograde, or assist with a burst of rocket power from the RAPIERs.
To land on the Mun, deploy tail struts and set her down on her tail, extend all landing gear, and retract belly landing struts, which will cause the craft to gently flop onto its gear.
Forward-facing and pitch-increasing RCS jets are installed to assist manoeuvring on the Munar surface.
To take-off from the Mun, deploy large nose gear, activate RAPIERs, and apply maximum throttle for about two seconds while pitching up hard. After that, cruise to orbit on atomic power.
A stock aircraft called BAK Kassius. Built with 50 of the finest parts, its root part is mk2Cockpit.Inline.
Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.7.0.
