CShRAID
Compact Short Range Air Intercept Drone (pronounced ‘charade’) - TYPE 5a
= TWIN CROWN AEROSPACE INDUSTRIES =
The Compact Short Range Air Intercept Drone (CShRAID) is a lightweight drone intended for airfield defense, intercepting incoming aircraft. Its design takes some concepts from the ASPEN platform and PEGASys-D project.
CShRAID Type 5 is a significant progression from the Type 2; while sharing many similar airframe features and construction, it takes design notes from the Type 3 (unreleased) as well as newer PEGASys-D models. It retains the 4 Tiger engines from the previous CShRAID types to power it through the air. Despite being designated a CShRAID and developed under such program, it has a fairly long combat endurance time, especially if filled to its maximum fuel capacity.
The Type 5a carries a 3 Vulcan gun armament. 8 Sidewinders, standard for most BDA 1.2.4 aircraft, give it a fairly potent anti-air capability, especially combined with SCRAPPER-II+ developed in the Basilisk and PEGASys-D programs.
As well, this entire package weighs in at just 5.5t, allowing it to fit in a ‘light drone’ category.
Its high maneuverability and control, and the resulting combat performance, have been so impressive, elements of the CShRAID Type 5 have been incorporated into a new PEGASys series to potentially replace the D-Series; whether the project produces useful results remains to be seen.
Like the previous CShRAIDs, its tuning hasn’t had too much time spent on it, but it’s surprisingly pretty vicious anyways. It’s a cool little thing regardless of the somewhat quick flight AI tuning it was given.
Built for the Air Superiority Competition Unlimited Reboot.
Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.6.1.
