Description

KV-8 Prototype is part of my Day One series. Practical craft, buildable on day one of your stock space program.

An early game, first aviation-tier workhorse. Good for low-altitude crew reports. Long on promises, short on power, fuel and forgiveness.

Fly ‘er easy. Plan your approaches. SAS is your pal but you can get by without it. You may experience minor bouncing on runway at load due to the known issues with this set of fixed landing gear. It is not catastrophic. Just start rolling and steer carefully.

She’s slow at first… Takeoff at 50-60 with flaps, 80 without.

Fill up the center tank if you’re going anywhere out of eyeshot of the KSC. Not all the way… she’ll start to fly like a real pig past half a tank. Recommend max 200 center 50 rear.

Drag chutes can deploy as stage two, for short runways or daring mid-air bailouts. If you’re any good, you won’t need them at the KSC runway, upgraded or not. Maybe don’t use a keyboard though…

Inner elevons are flaps. If you have upgraded SPH, put them into an AG, first thing. You will need the flaps to land. If fully loaded with fuel, for takeoff too. Good luck, Kmdr.

Fun fact: KV-8 is named for the AV-8x Harrier, because it originally resembled the famous VTOL. It shared a high, sloped wing and dual side-mounted jet intakes. Looked great… flew like a brick on a merry-go-round. It no longer looks like a Harrier but, on the bright side, it banks without constantly getting spun around in it’s own jet wash. Bonus!

A stock aircraft called Day One Top Gun (KV-8 Prototype). Built with 19 of the finest parts, its root part is Mark1Cockpit.

Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.12.3.
