The F8F Bearcat was one the first Superprops designed by Grumman.
.
It was a drastic change in ideology in Grumman for a naval fighter. Compared the the Hellcat, the Bearcat was much lighter, smaller, agile, and more expensive. Period articles regarding the plane talk about it’s Japanese design queues, however you can see a lot of German aspects in it. For instance the Bearcat has size dimensions similar to the 190As, the climb rates of 109s, and the lack of the climb rate indicator in again the 109s.
.
The Bearcat was famous for it’s climb rate up to 10k ft. It was so good that early jets for a while could not beat it from a standstill, as once the Bearcat took off the plane could pitch up and climb immediately while the jets needed to gain significant speed before climbing.
Early -1 planes carried 4 M2 .50 cals, the same used on P-51Bs. This was changed to the M3 20mm cannon on the -1B and all -2 Bearcats

The F8F used a telescoping landing gear which when extending out the landing gear extended down a lot, which when looking the gear bay while extended looks wonky compared to other fighters.
.
Due to the lightweight constructions it’s rated G limitation is below 7g, which is considered the average a pilot can take. What’s more intriguing is that when using alerions the g limit was reduced even further. This lead to the wings ripping frequently in high g maneuvers such as low altitude dive recoveries. Grumman attempted to solve this by designing a line that split half the alerions evenly so that a pilot could limp the plane back home. When this didn’t work they attached explosive devices to make sure both tips broke off. This didn’t solve the problem and in once instance it went off on the ground killing a person. Grumman removed the break away tips and strengthened the wings
.
The F8F didn’t last very long in US service being retired before the 70s. The Corsair and even the Hellcat out lasted it in military service. The French and Indonesian air forced wielded Bearcats.

Throttle for rpm
I/K for torque
H/N for prop pitch

0: Unlock all landing gear hinges
9: Lock landing gear hinges
When locking gear during retraction and especially extension, spam 9 when it should be in the stowed and extended position. If one or two are not locked no matter how hard you try use auto strut to heaviest
