M10 GMC

In the late 1930’s, the US military was concerned. The quite competent armies of the British and French had just been stomped on by the German war machine in France. The Americans were particularly concerned about the way the Germans attacked through enemy lines. The way this was done was that they concentrated tanks on a small point and then would use their tanks mobility to move around behind enemy lines and destroy the enemy. The US army was presented with a few options to counter this and they eventually went with what would become Tank Destroyer Branch. Tank Destroyer Branch was meant to be a highly mobile force that could meet these tanks where they attacked with anti tank guns. Tank Destroyer Branch then went about finding equipment for the job. They had a hard time finding the right vehicles for the job and eventually came up with various designed of half tracks and unsatisfactory vehicles. One of these was the M10. The M10 was certainly a capable vehicle but it wasn’t quite as mobile as was wanted. They decided that they would use it as a stop gap tank destroyer until they could make a better solution later. This would be the M18 Hellcat. The M10 mounted a 76mm cannon and was based off of an M4 medium chassis. It was an open topped vehicle with 5 crew. The tank was an effective vehicle and was overall a fine vehicle for the job.

To launch the M10, first decouple the turret from the hull, then detach the launch clamps on the turret, then the hull.
