The L-21 is a small, STOL science aircraft originally built in Kerbin and transported to Laythe disassembled in rockets for the New Frontiers mission that sought to make Laythe a permanent home for Kerbalkind. The aircraft is made of highly advanced composite materials and is equipped with redundant systems, strong landing gear and maintenance low airframe making it a perfect utility aircraft for Kerbals (now Laytheans). It was designed to be built with on-site infrastructure and materials making it like the Cessna 172 of Laythe. It was the first aircraft to be shot-down on the Laythe Rising incident by a AV-11, it was also the first Air-To-Air kill by an AV-11. The otter was slightly modified to fit a surveillance and electronic warfare platform during the engagement; it was equipped with an optical sensor to give GPS coordinates to bombers and other aircraft, also to function as FAC and JTAC in the battlefield. The otter has exceptional STOL performance and can takeoff from the roughest and highest point on Laythe with the aid of it’s twin Kitty turboprop engines and fully moving leading edge and trailing edge high lift devices, not to mention it’s oversized control surfaces and stabilizers witch give it excellent low speed handing characteristics and stability.
