Description
Warning: this vehicle is not intended for beginners. It’ll give you hard time if you never flew any kind of SSTO spaceplane at least to Low Kerbin Orbit (LKO).
This design really makes landing a big aircraft on Duna an easy job with its enhanced Short Take-Off and Vertical Landing (STOVL) capabilities. To comfortably land on Duna make sure you have around 900-1000 units of oxidizer left in tanks when going for LKO.
The plane is a bit draggy in Kerbin atmosphere due to lack of properly sleek liqiud fuel tanks in stock. For comfortable acceleration to 400m/s+ make sure your pitch isn’t higher then 5-6°. For the rest of the ascent 8-9° pitch is recommended. You have plenty of liquid fuel anyway so it’s no big deal to take your time to get proper speed.
The plane is equipped with full mining/refinery setup, so it is possible to visit any number of celestial bodies (with suitable gravity) in a single mission.
The plane has enough dV so it doesn’t require specific transfer window time for direct Duna travel, you can boldly go there from the day Zero if you feel like aerobraking. Duna is aerobraking heaven.
Both rovers are extra long range wheeled passenger vehicles capable of flight in low gravity with around 700 m/s dV in them. Keep in mind that rovers fuel tanks are included in spaceplanes fuel system during space flight so they’re almost empty right after landing. Small landing gears on the rover sides are the self-righting mechanism in case you flip one over. They are not assigned to landing gear keyboard shortcut this time due to a recent bug in KSP v.1.9.1 with ‘deploy when shielded’ checkbox not working properly, so you have to deploy them manually from the RMB menu.
Good luck and have fun!
Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.9.1.
