Science Football Module
Don’t drop it.
Developed in response to never actually retrieving interplanetary landers back at Kerbin, the Science Football allows our scientists to recover part of the vessel for research.
This counts as a vessel for Recovered vessel from surface of X
science. The Experiment Storage Unit isn’t actually needed, but useful for separating science between bodies while using the same lander. Swap out Footballs between Moons or Planets to keep the total number of experiments in a single container in check, or to recover multiple vessels from the same body. For Jool 6 footballs are needed, one for each moon and one for Jool orbit (or atmo flight) itself. Also see the Science Football Aero for regular size docking adapter and aerodynamic flight.
Note that recovering multiple footballs at once will only grant you the highest or most difficult situation, so you will have to either pop each one off at landing and recover separately or make multiple trips for proper vessel recovery science credit.
For example say you fly a football to Duna and back to low Kerbin Orbit. If you send a space plane to grab it and land, you won’t get Vessel orbit Duna
and Vessel orbit Kerbin
science recovered. The Duna recovery, being a higher multiplier will overwrite anything under it.
Built with 4 of the finest parts, its root part is ScienceBox.
Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.2.2.
