asteRoid Grabber - Extra Large

For capturing C-D class asteroids within Kerbin’s SOI. The Roid Grabber XL has become the standard asteroid interceptor for the program. Able to redirect ~400 ton rocks for roid-first prograde aerocapture to LKO, it brings its catch to the KSS for ore processing by the RAM module. Tucked along side are three Roid Rotator probes for easy handling. These must be returned to docking port for asteroid aerocapture.

Once asteroid is captured, built in ISRU and drills replenish the tanks for further maneuvers or reuse once asteroid is delivered. A small upgrade has added twice the solar arrays, adjusted the thermal arrays and added small command chair for an engineer to solve problems with overheating drills (bug in 1.2.2) not radiating properly. Legacy models can still dock a command chair via the Jr. docking ports and a Scooty Puff Jr.

While a class E asteroid has yet to be captured, the estimated mass of such large targets will likely prevent the XL model from significant course changes. The Roid Grabber XXL has been developed, but not yet deployed or vetted as mission capable. Mission control is skeptical about any craft attempting to move such massive targets. The smaller, original Roid Grabber craft fell out of service once XL model reuse had been demonstrated.

Built with 175 of the finest parts, its root part is asasmodule1-2.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.2.2.
