Polar Relay Scanner

Provides relay, ore survery and orbital science for near worlds.

This satellite is used in pairs to establish relay networks around Duna and the inner planets. Intended for a polar orbit, it’s equipped with a survey scanner to establish ore concentrations for future missions. As the first craft to enter, it carries orbital science experiments along with the single use Materials Bay and Mystery Goo for transmitting initial science results back to Kerbin. The two RA-15 Relay Antennas were used before the more powerful RA-100 was finalized. The relay and traditional antennas on the craft provide near 100% connectivity to Kerbin’s Relay Power Flowers from Moho, Eve, Duna and Kerbin’s moons. When sent as a stand alone mission, two relays are stacked in to the Polar Relay Scanner Package and when a manned mission is needed first, they are attached to the Gilly Hopper as demonstrated in the namesake mission to Gilly.

For the Gilly mission, a Scanner Package was sent to Eve to conduct high and low orbit tests and lay the groundwork for the relay net. The light Pathfinder package of a Space Bus carrying the first Gilly Hopper was sent after. The relays on the Hopper are then deployed at Gilly to finish the basic comms net for the neighborhood.

Once the RA-100 was developed, the Polar Relay Lite became the local area relay for Dres and the moons of Jool.

Built with 18 of the finest parts, its root part is science.module.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.2.2.
