Description

This 500 ton monster was inspired by the Star Trek Bird of Prey concept. Aerodynamically, it does everything completely wrong. =P As such it is a real bastard to get off the ground. If you follow my instructions perfectly, and have luck and the wind at your back, you should be able to get it into a minimal orbit of 80km with an eyedropper full of fuel remaining….

  1. Takeoff. Fire the main engine at 2/3rds throttle and accelerate to exactly 280 m/sec and immediately kill throttle. Any slower and it won’t take off, any faster and it will fall apart.

  2. Pitch up and achieve a ~30 degree ascent path.

  3. Switch engine mode (action group 1) and maintain 300m/sec until about 6km and then go full throttle. Focus on gaining altitude until at least 40km or so before switching to trying to gain orbital velocity. It will not be able to make orbit at all if it spends too much fuel at low altitudes.

WARNING: The controls are a bit wonky. It flies like a teradactyl. Do not attempt to bank the plane, it will simply go out of control, maintain level flight. The pitch controls work reasonably well. Steer exclusively with the rudder controls.

This is a stunt/concept test design and isn’t really fitted for an actual mission, I do not think it can be landed, it should be possible to refuel it with KAS, there is a kas winch under the bow.

Built in the SPH in KSP version 0.90.0.
