Description

The KC-82 Petrel is a twin engine carrier-based transport plane, designed to carry equipment, supplies and aircraft parts onto an aircraft carrier; its primary mission being Carrier On-Board Delivery (COD). It can also perform the function of an in flight re-fueling tanker thanks to a buddy-refueling pod which can be installed on one of the two under-wing pylons.

The Petrel is based on the KP-82 Skua Anti-Submarine aircraft; modifications include a longer fuselage adapted for the transportation of cargo, removal of the weapons bay, widening of the tail section to fit a tail ramp, and installation of windows along the fuselage. The KC-82B features new upgrades such as enhanced countermeasure systems, an in-flight refueling probe and a new glass-cockpit. The Petrel has been further adapted into a number of other sub-variants, most notably the KC-82E Vigilant Petrel AEW&C aircraft.
