Since I ran out of original ideas, I’ve fixed up another craft from the forums.
Action group 1 activates nukes.
Action group 2 toggles RAPIER mode
RCS also toggles the cargo bay (because that’s where our RCS is)
I think it would have more delta V if you took off with the oxidizer tanks only 30% full, or maybe not fill them at all.
Wings are angled at 3 degrees, after liftoff it will generate sufficient lift to fly on Prograde above 110m/s. It will start to go sonic around 5 or 6km, left to its own devices. If you don’t control pitch, it will alternative between a series of climbs and shallow dives. When the last dive has taken you over 1500m/s, activate the nukes on the way back up, it’s time to go to space.
Important - assuming you’re flying on Prograde the whole way, for best efficiency please keep the navball in surface mode till over 70km, this keeps the nose pointing into the wind and minimises drag loss.
Edit - I’ve taken this up a couple more times and I’m rather happy with how this turned out. Very easy to fly, has enough delta V to leave Kerbin SOI, carries crew and a small amount of cargo. The RCS in cargo bay system works well and enables it to translate for docking.
