Description
RP-1 X-Planes Stratospheric Research contracts. Capable of completing the 22km and 25km contracts.
Climb steeply from take-off until about 10km altitude and gradually level off as you approach higher altitudes. To reach 25km, the plane needs to be holding a very low climb rate (only about 1.5° in atmospheric autopilot)
The huge wings give the plane a very low stall speed when landing. Deploy full flaps on approach and come in slow and low. Level out just above the edge of the runway at about 50 m/s and then let the craft slow until it stalls the last couple of metres. Be very gentle with the brakes - it has a tendency to nose down under braking.
