Description

A base that can hang from one of the Mun Arches.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.9.1.

Do you need a place for your scientists to study the underside of a Mun Arch, or do you need a special place for your tourists where they have something to look up to every morning, or do you just want some place where you really can hang out and just enjoy the Munar landscape? Then AHTech Industries has the right craft for you, the:

Hanging Optimized Observation Karavansary

also known as

The Hook

Utilizing the latest in our vertical attachment technology the engineers at AHTech Industries managed to design a base that can be suspended from one of the Munar Arches. And all this without using the newfangled and unstable hinge or piston technology that is currently all the rage in lesser engineering companies. The Hook just uses good old fashioned rocketry, structural engineering, and precision piloting.
Once installed the base offers plenty of internal room that can be used as crew or tourist quarters, office space, community rooms, or whatever you need. It includes a laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment, redundant control rooms, an integrated computer core and no less that five large viewing cupolas that can either be used for scientific observations or as leisure galleries for tourists.

As one commentator remarked this base is also ideal for Jeb to store his ego when he is not using it.

The Hook is designed to attach to the Arch on the north rim of the East Crater. Other places have not been tested.

Final positioning of the Hook requires careful piloting. It is recommended to use the main engine to compensate for the Munar gravity and steer with RCS.

More impressions of the installation of the first permanent Hook base can be seen in this gallery.
